Springtime in Cardigan Bay

Aberporth, the tiny village on the Western tip of Wales where Blodwen HQ is
situated, lies on the Welsh Coastal Path – the first contiguous public walking path in Europe.  It is the longest bay in the UK, stretching 50 miles from Bardsey Island on the Llyn Peninsula all the way down to

Strumble Head in
Pembrokeshire.   Walking our tiny piece of it is always breathtaking, but never more so than at this time of year.  Spring has arrived with a flourish!  Hedgerows are bursting with blossom,
buttercups, violets and wild gorse.  The air is soft and gentle and the sea is an amazing green blue.

The Bay has the largest resident population of bottlenose dolphins in Europe and is now officially a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).

Cardigan Bay’s crabs are a favourite of Michelin Star chef Raymond Blanc.  An
invasion of spider crabs here back in the late 1990s has resulted in a regular supply of seafood to many of London’s top
restaurants.

This month sees the opening of Cardigan Castle after a £12 million facelift, courtesy of The Heritage Lottery Fund.  The
renovation is a commemoration of the birthplace of the first ‘Eisteddfod’, back in 1176 – Wales’ annual cultural festival and promises to be a major new tourist
attraction for West Wales – see all the
details here.

Come and enjoy!

Spoil Mam this Sunday

Every Mam deserves to be spoiled, and this year, why not use one of Blodwen’s
treasures to say ‘I love you’ – ‘Caru ti’.

There is nothing more
luxurious than relaxing in a nice, hot bath, so indulge your Mam this year with Blodwen’s ‘Mamgu’s Wild Rose Skincare Range, and bask in the
heavenly scent of Cardigan Bay’s wild roses.

Or let her relax, and make her a nice mug of hot chocolate, presented in one of Blodwen’s hand-thrown Pembrokeshire Stoneware mugs.  To top it all off, serve it with a bag of delicious hand rolled truffles, made by one of West Wales’ finest artisan chocolatiers.

If you’re looking for a more lasting gift this year, give one of Blodwen’s hand bound Journals or photo albums. Each one is adorned with a vintage photograph of Blodwen, found in the National Archives, and journalsbeautifully presented in a red-lined gift box.  As Louisa May Alcott once said :

“Preserve your memories,
Keep them well,
What you forget
You cannot retell.”

So make sure your Mam has somewhere special to store old memories, with enough room to put new ones for the years to come.

Mam really is the best, so show her you care this year with a little help from

Blodwen’s Mamgu’s (Grandma’s) Wild Rose Skincare Range consists of four luscious beauty products - a Face Cream, a Bath Soak,
Aromatic Water and a Face and Body Oil.

So listen to one of Wales’ most famous folk songs in praise of the wild rose, ‘Ar Lan y Mor’ (Beside the Sea), sung in Welsh here by Catrin O’Neill, an up-and-coming star on the Welsh folk music scene.  See the translated lyrics
below.  So make sure everything’s smelling of roses this Valentine’s Day!

Beside the Sea

Beside the sea red roses growing
Beside the sea white lilies showing
Beside the sea their beauty telling
My true love sleeps within her dwelling

Beside the sea the stones lie
scattered
Where tender words in love were Nia_book-002461-20
uttered
While all around there grew the lily
And sweetest branches of rosemary

Beside the sea blue pebbles lying
Beside the sea gold flowers glowing
Beside the sea are all things fairest
Beside the sea is found my dearest

Full the sea of sand and billows
Full the egg of whites and yellows
Full the woods of leaf and flower
Full my heart of love for ever
